PhD Position in Macroeconomics / International Economics [Switzerland]


 

Within a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) supported project, the International Economics group at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel is searching for a PhD Student. The growing International Economics group is directed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Müller and is part of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel, one of the leading research universities in Europe.

The position is limited to four years and the earliest starting date is September 1st, 2023

Researchers will become part of an international research group in an English-speaking environment. Your research will contribute to the SNSF supported project titled “The macroeconomic consequences of 21st century sovereign debt accumulation” that will investigate the consequences of high public debt and international borrowing on structural reforms, political and sovereign default risk, the rise of the service sector, and income redistribution. Teaching responsibilities may be conducted in German or English.

Your profile

The ideal candidate has an excellent Master degree in Economics, Finance, Econometrics or a related field. Solid knowledge of economics and corresponding research methods and an interest in applying these skills to understand the consequences of macroeconomics policies, in particular public debt accumulation and international borrowing, are required. Experience in applying empirical and quantitative methods and the corresponding programming skills (e.g. using Stata, R, or Matlab) are desired.

The successful applicant will be offered individual mentoring and will be part of the Graduate School of Business and Economics (GSBE) at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel.
